CDO and Camiguin 2008

May 4, 2008

From May 1 to 3, 2008, our Society had its Midyear Convention at Cagayan de Oro City.

I arrived on April 30 with most of my colleagues from my hospital. First order of business, lunch at a seafood restaurant in Opol, Misamis Oriental. Yes, our first lunch actually outside CDO. We had local specialty Sinuglaw (Sinugba and Kinilaw), as well as very meaty crab and lobster. Great start. I was able to attend the Research Coordinators Meeting which was held at the Xavier University, which was only walking distance from my hotel, the Maxandrea. That night, we had dinner and heard lectures from our Korean guests from Kyung Hee University in Seoul.

May 1, we all went to register at the Convention site, which was the Pryce Plaza Hotel. We were then brought over to the Del Monte Clubhouse in Bukidnon for lunch, which was a sumptuous thick steak. We passed by the vast pineapple plantations on the way back to CDO. We spent the whole afternoon back at Pryce for the rest of the Convention lectures.

May 2, our group, as hosts of our Korean guests, went to visit Camiguin Island. The main port of the RORO was about 2 hours away from the city center. The ferry ride was about an hour also. For our day tour, we visited the Governor's residence, the Katibawasan Falls, the Sto. Nino Cold Springs, and finally, the beautiful White Island. Everyone in the group vowed to return in order to visit the rest of this mysterious island province. It was raining cats and dogs on our way home after a long delay at the ferry. We had dinner at Chicken Ati Atihan. I walked over to the Weekend Night Market which was very near my hotel.
