September 7, 2009
As I wrote in my last post, August 21, 2009 is a state holiday in Hawaii, called Statehood Day. This year is the 50th year that Hawaii became the 50th state of the United States. As a result, on this day, the bus followed a holiday schedule. But I found that out too late.
I climbed Diamondhead that afternoon and had to catch a bus to get back to Waikiki. Unfortunately I missed the arrival of the hourly bus. It was already past 5pm and it would be hard to get caught by the darkness, and since I knew how to walk back to the beach. I decided to do just that.
The walk took longer than I thought, about an hour or so. But fortunately the walk back also served as my opportunity to catch the scenic Pacific Coast and Waikiki Beach by sunset. It was quite a lengthy walk, but I did not really get tired. I think these photographs which I share with you today can serve to preserve the memory of my long but satisfying walk.
